The wedding cake is often the showpiece of the big day: a stunning centerpiece, a special moment to cut together, and of course, delicious to enjoy. But let’s be honest – the costs can quickly add up.
Luckily, you can save smartly without sacrificing style or experience. Here are my tips as a wedding planner:
A Small Cake for the Photos
For the cake-cutting moment, you usually only need a compact “show cake.” Behind the scenes, you can serve guests a large sheet cake. This way, you still have the beautiful moment while saving a significant amount.
Mini Cakes or Cupcakes
Super festive and personal! Each guest gets their own portion, there are no cutting costs, and you can even offer different flavors.
Combine Cake With Other Treats
Pair a small cake with a donut wall, cupcakes, or a dessert table filled with brownies and cookies. Guests will have more choice, it looks cozy, and it’s often cheaper than ordering one massive cake for everyone.
Buttercream Instead of Fondant
Fondant looks sleek, but it’s more expensive and often less tasty. With buttercream, you can create the same luxurious effect – only kinder to your budget.
Fresh Flowers Instead of Sugar Flowers
Sugar flowers are stunning but very labor-intensive, and you’ll see that reflected in the price. Fresh flowers give the same wow effect at a much lower cost.
Extra Money-Saving Hack
Check out your local bakery. Often, you’ll pay much more with a specialized “wedding baker,” while a talented local baker can create an equally beautiful and tasty cake for a softer price.
Wedding Planner’s Tip
Even the simplest cake can look luxurious when presented beautifully. Place your cake or dessert table in a prominent spot and decorate with flowers, candles, or a personal touch like a sign with your names.
